Michael W. Sansbury - Director of Development -
 
Mr. Sansbury is a graduate of the School of Hotel Administrations at Cornell University.  Michael has most recently advised a new development company on all aspects of hotel operations for a $2 billion destination resort currently under construction in the Bahamas. His first assignment was to lead a due diligence team during the acquisition of existing hotel assets on the site, including 1,950 hotel rooms and a 35,000 square foot casino. Michael was instrumental in bringing letters of intent with Starwood Hotels and Resorts and Harrah’s Entertainment to partner in the new resort. He was responsible for negotiations with the Bahamian government on such matters as airlift and airport operations.

Michael also worked with Loews Hotels as Regional Vice President & Managing Director responsible for the pre-opening planning and operation of three hotels at the Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, Florida. His experience with Loews also included regional responsibility for the successful opening and operation of Loews Miami Beach, Don CeSar Resort in St. Pete Beach Florida and the Loews New Orleans.

Before Loews, Michael was Vice President of Operations with Mirage Resorts and was responsible for all hotel operations and marketing for the Mirage Resort, as 3044-room premier casino resort with six thousand employees and annual occupancy in excess of 98%. Michael personally directed a $52 million renovation of 2,767 guest rooms in 23 weeks. In addition, he was also completely involved in the design development of the Bellagio Resort, which opened in 1998. Responsibilities included designing the specifications for the telecommunications systems, property management systems and many aspects of the $1.3 billion project. Additionally he supervised all aspects of the grand opening of the company’s 3,000 room Treasure Island Resort.

During his 19 years with Westin Hotels & Resorts Michael was the Managing Director for the Walt Disney World Swan, the General Manager of the Westin Hotel, Washington where he repositioned the property and prepared it for sale to Nippon Airways while retaining the Westin management and marketing contracts. In addition, he was also General Manager of The Westin in Vail Colorado where he directed the expansion of the resort, Resident Manager of the Westin Copley Place in Boston, Executive Assistant Manager of the Carlton Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa, Director of F&B at the Mayflower in Washington, Senior Assistant Manager at the Mayflower, Front Office Manager at the Detroit Plaza Hotel and Assistant to the VP/ Managing Director and began as a Management Trainee at the Crown Center Hotel in Kansas.

During leave from Westin, Michael was the Administrative Officer – The Executive Residence at our nation’s White House. He set up management systems and practices for housekeeping, food and beverage, purchasing and other hotel-type operations within the Executive Residence at the White House.
